Cape Cod Facts:
Cape Cod is a peninsula located in southeastern Massachusetts. It extends out into the Atlantic Ocean from the mainland of Massachusetts.
Cape Cod is known for its sandy beaches, lighthouses, and quaint New England towns. Popular beach destinations include Provincetown, Wellfleet, Truro, and Nauset Beach.
The Cape’s attractions draw millions of tourists each summer. In addition to beaches, people enjoy boating, fishing, hiking trails, art galleries, shops, and seafood restaurants.
Provincetown at the very tip of Cape Cod is known as a lively artists’ colony and LGBTQ+ resort destination. It has a distinctly European flair due to its history of Portuguese and other immigrant fishermen.
Other notable Cape Cod towns include Chatham, Harwich, Orleans, Eastham, Barnstable, Yarmouth, Dennis, and Hyannis. The Cape Cod Canal bridges Cape Cod to the mainland.
The Cape has a characteristic landscape of sandy oceanside terrain, crashing surf, maritime forests, kettle ponds, marshes, and cranberry bogs. Lighthouses like Highland Light mark its coastline, as well as makes a great location for Cape Cod Webcams.
Cape Cod National Seashore stretches some 40 miles along the Atlantic shore, preserving the area’s scenic dunes, beaches, and marshes for recreational use. Check out our Map of Cape Cod Beach Cams!
