About Sagamore Bridge Webcam

The Sagamore Bridge is a prominent bridge located in Massachusetts, United States. It spans the Cape Cod Canal, connecting the towns of Bourne on the mainland with Sagamore on Cape Cod. The bridge carries Route 6, also known as the Mid-Cape Highway, which is a major transportation route for residents and visitors traveling to Cape Cod.

The Sagamore Bridge was opened to traffic on June 22, 1935, however the Sagamore Bridge Webcam wasn’t installed until 2016. It is a steel cantilever truss bridge with a vertical clearance of 135 feet (41 meters) at mean high water. The bridge has two lanes in each direction, accommodating vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians. Its overall length is approximately 4,037 feet (1,230 meters), and it has a maximum height of 265 feet (81 meters) from the roadway to the top of the main towers.

The bridge was named after the Native American Sagamore tribe, who inhabited the Cape Cod area before European settlement. It serves as a vital transportation link for the region, facilitating access to Cape Cod’s beautiful beaches, tourist destinations, and recreational areas.

The Sagamore Bridge, along with the nearby Bourne Bridge, plays a crucial role in alleviating traffic congestion during the peak summer months when thousands of tourists visit Cape Cod. These bridges are managed and maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and are an iconic symbol of Cape Cod’s connection to the mainland.
